There are many different plants that are suitable for hedging, even citrus make a fantastic hedge.
Hedges can be clipped formal or left to grow naturally. We are increasing our range of hedging plants each year.
The following plants are our favourite hedging plants.
Murraya – Murraya paniculata
This relative of the citrus family makes a fantastic hedge. It has magnificent sweet scented flowers that are produced numerous times throughout the warmer months. The young fresh foliage is light green, maturing to a glossy deep green. Can be left natural to form an informal hedge or pruned and clipped to form a hedge anywhere from 0.6metres to 3metres in height. Plant in full sun in a well drained position and fertilise regularly to encourage quick growth

This beautiful plant is being used extensively by the florist industry. The large shiny green leaves make a perfect filler for floral arrangements. In the home garden it is an excellent quick growing, large shrub, that is ideal as a hedge or screen up to 4 metres. Grows best in full sun but can handle part shade. In spring it produces large clusters of sweetly scented tiny white blooms.
Photinia – Photinia x fraseri

A very hardy medium to large shrub that is ideal for hedging. With regular pruning, makes a dense hedge from 1metre to 3 metres in height. The new fresh growth is a magnificent red colour that turns green as it matures, Therefore producing a hedge that changes colour throughout the season. In Spring it produces white flowers, although its star quality is the red new growth. Grows best in full sun and well drained soil.
