Description

Dwarf Yuzu (Citrus junos)

The Yuzu’s popularity is increasing in Australia right alongside the growing interest in making Korean and Japanese foods at home. The Yuzu tree is reasonably vigorous and has some truly impressive spikes that definitely need a bit of caution when harvesting. It has a good, dense growth habit and its leaves are long and elegant with a distinct petiole that make it a very nice specimen tree for the yard.

The flavour of fruit by itself is rather tart and bitter, but it does have a lovely and almost sweet-smelling fragrance. The fruit isn’t traditionally eaten fresh, but both the zest and juice can be used in a variety of drinks and other culinary delights.

The dwarf yuzu tree tends to grow a little slower than its normal-sized counterpart, but this makes it a better fit for smaller garden spaces, balconies, or being kept in a nice big pot.
(And no, being a dwarf tree does not make the spikes dwarf-sized; we found out the hard way!)
