Description

Mandarin Ellendale (Citrus reticulata ‘Ellendale’)

The Ellendale mandarin is an old-fashioned mandarin that was developed in Queensland around 1878, so it’s easy to say its withstood the test of time. The fruit is large and can have a bit of a flat round shape, but it’s very juicy with a nice rich flavour.  Although the skin is relatively thin, it can be quite tight and a little harder to peel, which has seen it lose a bit of popularity over the years. The tree itself is considered to be a medium sized grower, reaching up to the 4 metre mark in its lifetime, when planted in the ground and given appropriate nutrition.

Fruit will begin to ripen from July – August, but like many other mandarins, it can sometimes fruit in alternate years.
